New here

Your first class, start to finish.

One hour. Your first pole class. A room of people who have also never done this. Here is the whole thing, before you book it.

01 - The hour

Here's exactly how it goes

You book Intro to Pole. It is the one pole class with no prerequisite, and it is where basically everyone at this studio started.

01

Book Intro to Pole

Not Level 1, even if you have danced or done aerial for years. The pole is its own apparatus and the first class is about meeting it.

02

Get there 15 minutes early

First time. There is a waiver, and it gives us a minute to show you where things are. Arrive more than five minutes after the start and you will not be able to join - the warm-up is not optional when you are about to hang off something.

03

Warm up properly

Shoulders, wrists, core. The foundation for everything that comes next.

04

Spin. Grip. Laugh. Repeat.

Your first spins, holding your own weight, working toward a climb, and some conditioning worked in. You may discover muscles you didn't know you had.

05

Then decide what's next

Take two Intro classes and Level 1 opens up. Take five if you want. Nobody is counting except the booking system, and it is not judgmental.

02 - What to bring

Layers. And
a little skin.

Bare skin is what grips the pole. It's one of the easiest ways to make your first class a little less slippery.

Layers

Wear layers you can take off. You may need exposed skin for certain moves - knees and upper thighs do a lot of the gripping.

A top you can move in

Anything. Sleeveless becomes useful at higher levels, but not yet.

Bare feet or socks

You do not need heels for Intro. Buy them later, if you want them at all.

No lotion or oil

Skip lotion, oil and body butter before class. They make the pole slippery.

Water

You will want it sooner than you think.

03 - Questions

You've got questions. Good.

04 - The first one

$25
for your first
class at Gowanus

One per student, valid a month from purchase. It covers any regularly scheduled class - not workshops, privates or parties. After that, you can book single classes, class packs, programs, or whatever fits how you want to train.

05 - Where

Classes are at Gowanus

Every scheduled class runs out of the Gowanus studio at 43D 9th Street. The Dumbo Den is a rental space - no class schedule - so it is not where you want to start.
